Night Write:  each week, students will practice using writing traits.  Night writes give the students the opportunity and benefits of daily writing practice.  Topics are assigned on Monday and due on Thursday. Please encourage your child to read his or her night write outloud but resist the temptation to scrutinize. Night writes are shared in class as a way of fostering a writing community. Selected night writes will be edited and published in class. Here is a general schedule to follow for night writes:

Monday:  Prewrite and begin draft
Tuesday:  Finish draft
Wednesday:  Revise and edit work
Thursday:  Present final writing piece
Friday:  Share/celebrate in class

Spelling Routine:  The spelling program is designed to help students recognize patterns of spelling.  Students receive a list of spelling words on Monday and will be assessed each Friday.

Monday:  Write a sentence for each word.  Be sure to number each sentence and underline the spelling word.

Tuesday:  Study correct spelling and sort

Wednesday:  See, Say, Write  Students will write each word 3X

Thursday:  Pre-test at home (guardians please sign)

Friday:  Spelling Test in class

Reading: Students are reading for 20-30 minutes each night from a book of their choice. Book titles should be recorded in the student reading log and initialed each night by parents.

Math:
Students will be given a Study Link nightly that correlates with what has been taught during class. Students are requested to bring their Students Reference Books home as well as their math notebooks. They need to bring both back to school daily. Students are encouraged to study Multiplication and Division facts throughout the year. It is imperative that they can accurately recall these facts. It will be helpful when we cover fractions, decimals, estimation, and computation.
